Top U.S. Congressional staffers Alexis Covey-Brandt and Catlin O’Neill discussed Monday at the Clinton School their behind-the-scenes work to usher the legislative process on Capitol Hill.

Covey-Brandt, floor director for House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D, Md.), and O’Neill, deputy director of legislative operations for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D, Calif.), play major players in setting the schedule for the House and gathering votes to support the Democratic agenda.

The young staffers discussed their rise from stuffing envelopes for Democratic campaigns, to the highest ranks of the House staff. Both now play high-profile roles working the House floor for their respective bosses.

Before their lecture, Covey-Brandt and O’Neill visited with several Clinton School students, including (’11), who served on the staff of Arkansas Congressman Mike Ross before entering the Clinton School. Hendrix introduced Monday’s panel.

Covey-Brandt manages the daily House floor schedule and works with House leadership to implement the Democratic legislative agenda. O’Neill works with House leadership, other House members, the Senate and the White House to ensure that the speaker’s legislative priorities are accomplished.
